My name is Joe Intili. I can be contacted at intilij@yahoo.com. I'm a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) with a degree in math, not political science, but have a long and abiding interest in public policy, international affairs, government, and political discourse and debate. I have voted for both Republicans and Democrats: I voted twice for Bob Ehrlich (R) for Governor of Maryland, twice for Bill Clinton (D), and volunteered for the Joe Biden (D) campaign during the Iowa Caucuses. I hope you enjoy the blog, and I hope you choose to interact with it, and further its reason for being, best described below.
[The following is the content of "First Post"]
This blog hopes to present views from an independent perspective. So what is "independent?" It's a perspective based more in rationale, reason, proportion, and fact than in doctrine and familiar partisan policy positions. Doctrinaire arguments fit Justice Stewart's characterization, in that they are hard to define but easy to recognize.
This site will welcome comments on the political, social, and international issues of the day. A superb comment will make its point, support it, identify and describe contrary points others might make, and reason thoughtfully why the contrary positions do not hold up, or perhaps why they do.
It is my hope that this simple blog might start a wave, a trend of political discourse and debate which is on a higher, more informative, and more helpful level than the reflexive partisan positions we have all heard so much and so often, and thereby be true to its domain name - independentcaucus.com.
like most people, politics being perhaps the most intensely held. i'll offer a few nuggets of things i have liked: the movies "garden state", "all the president's men", "observatory mansions" by edward carey; brahm's "variations on a theme by haydn"; the food ceviche (awfully good, if you never tried it); sporting events like any match borg ever played against mcenroe, or mcenroe against connors, i have many interests, "the poseidon aventure (the original)"; the books "herzog" by saul bellow, or connors against borg.
